You might think that the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC has the largest statue of Honest Abe in the world... but you'd be wrong. The supersized Lincoln statue, coming in at 72 feet tall, is in Charleston- Ashmore, Illinois. Built in 1969 to sit next to a campground near the Charleston Speedway, the camp closed in 1996 and old Abe fell into disrepair. His pointing to the sky index finger fell off and someone's idea of a sick joke was to shoot a hole in his head, making the statue arguably more accurate. But in 2007, the giant Abe was restored, with a new coat of paint, a patch to the shot out cheek, and a brand new index finger, pointing to the heavens all over again.
